Slow Joe Crow - July 2007

Back to home page

You might be wondering why I have a crow sitting on my head.

Well, I wondered the same.

Back in July 2007, I saw a young crow sitting in the garden, and didn't think much of it at first. Then as I walked past it to go the garage, it didn't move. "Hmmmm, that's odd", I thought. So I went up to it, crouched down and held out my hand. After a short hestitation it hopped onto my hand and sat there quite happily. Now that's what you call unusual!

My kids soon noticed that I had acquired a pet crow and grabbed the camera. The crow was quite happy to sit on people's heads and shoulders, and would fly from one person to another when they raised their arm.

I decided to name him Slow Joe Crow after the character in one of Dr Suess' tongue twisters (from the book "Fox in Socks")

Since I needed to get on with some work, I went into my office in the garage, but the crow decided to follow, where it made itself at home on my head!

The crow stayed in or around the garden for the whole day, but the next day it was gone, and we haven't seen it since.

Pretty unusual experience really - for me at least...
